lemon casts his spell

Photo: A Drummer Casting out the Dementors

The rumors flew fast and thick all weekend. The story was that the Eraserheads Reunion was canceled. After all the relentless pressure from the anti-smoking lobby led by Dr. Maricar Limpin and her cronies at the Department of Health, Philip Morris did pull out of the show they organized. But on Sunday night, Raymund Marasigan himself made the announcement: The Eraserheads are "most definitely" pushing through with the reunion show. On schedule. At the right venue. On 08.30.2008 at the Fort Bonifacio open field.

Lemme tell ya, what a cliffhanger this has been.

Just last Friday, a frustrated Raymund Marasigan vented out on the Sandwich and Cambio mailing
lists that forces he referred to as "dementors" are "in pursuit" and
wanted to stop the show. This didn’t deter the former Eraserheads, who
wanted to push through with the concert at the appointed time and place.

Writing in coded, almost Nostradmus -like language,  he wrote that too much time and emotion had been spent on revving up "The Magical Mystery Show"
and that it had to go on. Considering all the effort involved in the
hatchet burying among the band members, and the anticipation ratcheted
up among the eHeads faithful, a cancellation would have been the
ultimate letdown.

Here was the e-mail sent last Friday:

from: raymund marasigan
to: subsandwich@yahoogroups.com

subject: [subsandwich] the magical mystery show

a few months ago:

you asked me to wake the creature up.
you tried to convince me that it was time.
you said the people needed it.
i said it’s not a good idea to wake a sleeping beast.
you don’t know what will happen when it rises.
you tried to convince me that it will all be good.
you have everything under control.
we argued til the rooster shook and you had an answer to all my fears.
i still don’t share your feelings but i will do it for you my old
friend.but be prepared and beware.

now:

the 4 headed hydra is awake. all is not well. the dementors are in
pursuit. the people are restless.promises have been broken.
i’m kept in the dark, but i warned you.

it is changing peoples lives. it is changing you right at this very
moment. too many people want a piece of it.

lives, work, and feelings had been put on hold for this circus. i have
done my part. you must  keep your word and get this thing under
control. keep the dark at bay. take us to the promised land on the
time that was appointed and give the people what they want.

By Saturday, a brief story went out that the show was canceled, and by evening, it was quoted and re-quoted and it was all over the blogosphere.

I
was curious, so I texted a friend of mine close to the eHeads inner
circle, just to see if it was all true. I wasn’t expecting quite a fast
reply, but I got one.

"No confirmation yet. They will tell boys final decision on last rehearsal"

Then just a few scant minutes later came a follow-up SMS:

"Update: Looks like it’s pushing through. Different producer. No details."

Sure enough, on Sunday night came the announcement, straight from the drummer’s mouth:

From: raymund marasigan
date: Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 8:37 PM
subject: [subsandwich] eraserheads aug 30 08 confirmed

dear everybody

after much ado. the eraserheads concert is most definitely pushing through.

philip
morris and its brands have pulled out from the concert. but another
company is taking over the production. the turn over started
yesterday and they have already started work on the site in the fort. so you can check.

there are good news and bad news.

unfortunately it’s no longer free. all the long winded registration procedures in the red nation site is now void.

the
good news is that the age limit is now 12 years old (for safety
reasons) and tickets will be sold so you don’t have to wait for
confirmation and what not.

the official announcement and ticketing details will come out in major newspapers and on the radio on tuesday.

these are the only details i know for now so no need to email me. i’m just the drummer.

btw. i just got home from the last rehearsal. the band is cooking. we will see you all on the 30th.

raym<s>

And so it goes. After all the drums, and after all the drama, the Eraserheads reunion is pushing through. "Most definitely."

And now a summary, for some of our readers who still need things spelled out for them:

What: The Eraserheads Reunion Concert

Where: The Fort Bonifacio open field, Fort Bonifacio Global City, Taguig

When: August 30, 2008

How:
For ticket details, watch out for the details on Tuesday August 26,
2008. This will be published in all the papers. And plugged on the
radio. And of course, the Internet, the standard bearer for all the
news nowadays, both the good and bad.

Wtf: So what about that Marlboro website… ? Fuhggetabout it. Please re-read "how".

As for the whole drama involving the dastardly dementors  - and you know who you all are - that is certainly a tale worth re-telling, and re-tell it we shall.

———————————————

Monday Night UPDATE: Reports trickling into PhilMusic Central have it that the new producer is none other than Sony-BMG, the present reincarnation of the band’s old record label BMG Pilipinas. If this is true, props to Rudy Tee for taking on the show, and it means the show is safely in the hands of old pros. This would also mean we smell a live recording out of all this, DVD, double CD, the works. Well, it’ll be Tuesday soon, so we’ll see if our guesses our right. Our speculative track record has been great so far. :)

As
for the show venue, with all the development going on in the Fort
Bonifacio Global City nowadays (in two years this is going to be just
like Makati), what constitutes an "open field" is a tough call. But I
believe I found the place.

I drove around the Fort tonight and
saw the concert site being prepared - a fence was being erected and a
stage was going up at a field right behind the NBC Tent.
Parking looks like it’s going to be tight. I would advise coming early
and parking at the Bonifacio High Street parking lot, have dinner, and
walk over to the field from there.

new album

Filed under: Uncategorized — idlewyle @ 11:02 am

Perhaps only a few knew that I loved Eraserheads.
Being a praning probinsyana, the only gig I managed to watch them live was at a Cervini open house. My pigtails and floral blouse won’t get the pass into Club Dredd and I can’t for the life of me commute to the nearby 70’s bistro.  Seeing the fab four on stage though was one of the highlights of my college days. I wished every time I was walking around UP that I’d see one of them. I clipped every interview and picture of them in magazines and newspapers…although most have been eaten by moths by now. When their egroups was created, I was one of the earliest lurkers there. I rejoiced on the rare times that Rayms or Buddy or Marcus dropped a line. I never saw an entry by Ely though.

When they disbanded I almost cried. And like the rest of their fans, I began to wish that same day that they will reunite, even up until today. A true blue Eraserheads fan will still be wishing, kahit 1 gig lang, for ely , marcus, buddy and rayms to get together again.

However, their individual achievements still make me happy. Amongst all though, Marcus was the one that compelled me to blog in friendster again, if only to help plug his newest album available in the market. :) hehehe! Feeling close.
Why help him plug? Wala.Gusto ko lang. ‘Ket ba? :P

How I got across this article, escapes me. I just found it amusing and delightful. For a man, a say, he knows what he is talking about. Why don’t the rest of them follow suit?

How to Charm a Woman

Women are complicated, but some things are universal

By David Wygant

Special to Yahoo! Personals

Updated: Jul 21, 2007

How can you charm a woman?
Do they like a daily check-in phone call? Does she secretly wish you’d
text her in the middle of the day for no reason but to make her smile?
Do they prefer expensive dinners to home-cooked meals? Rock-hard abs?
Flowers for no reason?

Identifying
women’s turn-ons is complicated, because they all react differently.
Some women you wish came with owner’s manuals so you knew exactly how
they were wired. Luckily, I’ve done most of the legwork for you and am
happy to pass this knowledge on to you.

Top 10 ways to charm a woman

  1. Be aware.
This means cracking open more than the sports section on the daily
paper. Be up on current events and learn the difference between
feelings, emotions and thoughts. Women are emotional beings and tend to
    think things through.

“They are attracted to men who are as smart or smarter”

They are attracted to men who are as smart or smarter than them,
and your knowledge of worldly matters will demonstrate your
    intelligence.

  2. Demonstrate humor. Women love a man who
can make them laugh. Now don’t fret here if you’re not a stand-up
comedian. We all have a certain type of humor. You can be dry,
sarcastic, hilariously funny, quick-witted or dark. Being able to poke
fun at yourself and just plain old being goofy is a turn-on for women.
Keep in mind that all women are not attracted to the same type of
humor, so if you don’t vibe, just walk away and try someone else.
  3. Have passion.
A guy who lives his life with gusto is incredibly appealing. When you
speak to a woman about your life, your travels, your job, your
interests, speak with passion. That passion about who you are will turn
her on instantly. She will start to imagine what it will be like when
you are involved with her and how passionate you will speak about her.
  4. Be considerate.
Pay attention to the little things and look for opportunities to make
small gestures that show you care. A simple "How was your day?" and
being able to listen to her when she wants to discuss something are
huge. So many men forget about simple things like holding the door,
paying for her valet or just thanking her for a great time last night.
Women are all about a guy with manners — she is not attracted to the
dope who acts like a caveman.
  5. Be honest.

“Share who you are by telling her something personal”

Share who you are by telling her something personal. Maybe share
one of your favorite childhood memories or some personal growth that
you have been going through. Something that will show her that you are
a trusting and honest person. It also shows that you are a confident
but vulnerable man. Women love to see the vulnerable side of you. Note:
Don’t talk about an ex in a bad way here. If you have to talk about an
ex, do so in a positive manner and share what you learned and how you
    grew from the relationship.

  6. Be flexibile. Be open to
her plans but surprise her with your flexibility. Take charge and
surprise her with a fun night out. Instead of being the typical guy who
makes a reservation, think about how you can be the guy who listens to
her and plans a great date that she did not expect. If you can pull
this off, she will be open to all sorts of advances from you.
  7. Be positive.
If you are positive about life, it shows in your actions. I always tell
men to be extra nice to waiters, bartenders and other service people.
Be a courteous driver when she’s in the car. When you are in line at
the movies, don’t complain. Look for the humor and try to have fun with
people all around you. Be positive about everything, and she will find
you to be very sexy and alluring. No one wants to be with a negative
    hothead.
  8. Be balanced. Women love a successful,
ambitious man. They love that you work hard, but if you constantly put
work ahead of her she will become turned off. She will start to imagine
what life with you will be like with her needs being ignored. If you
are out meeting women to date, you need to balance your life between
work and play. This will be a major turn-on for her.
  9. Have ambition.
Men who are ambitious about what they do are a turn-on to women. It
doesn’t matter if you choose to be a rich stock trader or a painter, as
long as you are passionate about who you are and what you do. If you
don’t love what you do, find something that really turns you on. You
can’t attract the woman you want with a negative ambition. Women love a
man who is the best at what he does.
  10. Be attentive. You
are out with her for the very first time, and she tells you she loves a
certain type of music. On the next date take her to a lounge that plays
that type of music. It is all about paying attention to the details and
    working on your listening skills.

resurrect

months after my so-called self-proclaimed new year, it seems like i didn’t make a better commitment to idlewyle. i haven’t been blogging for a while. although i have made it saner but it’s definitely telling only on minor facets of what i have been going through.

can i then deduce that i am making better commitment to living a life then?

perhaps. :)

Hala!

Filed under: Uncategorized — idlewyle @ 4:50 pm

Hala….
Did I just do that?
Did I just delete two years worth of blog published?

I REALLY just did.

and it is sort of liberating. :)

THE PLAN:
To make a saner photo blog…perhaps with more things that need not be explicitly said. A blog with post-storm waters and breezier sailings.

THE WISH:
That I shall abide with the basic element of reform….that is to maintain blog’s sane tone. :-P That it shall not be just an avenue for outbursts and wishes unheard of anywhere else.

(Yeah, right.*fingers-crossed*)

So here goes my attempt at keeping a better commitment to idlewyle.
